本片描述了日本浮世繪大師葛飾北齋多姿多彩的一生。 貧民出身的鐵藏（緒形拳 飾）少年時成為磨鏡師中島伊勢（フランキー堺 飾）的繼子，后因迷戀繪畫而拜師學畫，卻被數個師傅驅逐。后與養父鬧翻，和女兒阿榮（田中裕子 飾）寄居在武士出身卻酷愛寫作的好友佐七（西田敏行 飾）家里。 鐵藏雨中邂逅謎樣美女阿直（樋口可南子 飾），與之墮入情網，從此迷上春宮畫，竟大受歡迎。養父迷戀阿直不得，自殺。阿直亦不辭而別，鐵藏人生跌入低谷。困頓之際阿榮和佐七（后來的文學巨匠 龍澤馬琴）幫鐵藏渡過難關。四海云游的鐵藏繪出;富獄三十六景等名作。女兒阿榮則在七十歲之際嫁給八十二歲的佐七。獨自一人的鐵藏在失明的情況下畫出最后的名作;喜能會之故真道

Ay?e, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.
