芳齡20、貌美的卡蘿爾 bull;施奈德盡管有著富裕而安逸的生活，但她并不快樂。她的男友亞歷山大既細心又有耐心，而她總卻期待他有其它不一樣的、超出公認的準則的生活給她。然而，亞歷山大的冷漠使她感到不安，于是，卡蘿爾以外出宣泄來取代她空虛的日子，結果導致她被懷疑為恐怖分子遭羈押而最后送往精神病院。;實際上，卡蘿爾主觀上有進精神病院的愿望。她渴望與其他病人一樣成為一個名副其實的白癡，能夠通過非常人的妄想來延伸自己的的幻想，逃避她原先日常生活的困惑。很快，卡蘿爾在這里遇到了真正的瘋狂，性格無法平衡的她在精神病康復的恐怖儀式中可以不再區分現實或幻想里的瘋狂，她決定永久地留在精神病院。

But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present.　　Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.
