Ay?e, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.  故事發(fā)生在一艘名為“托林號”的英國皇家海軍驅(qū)逐艦上，在一場激烈的海戰(zhàn)中，該驅(qū)逐艦擊落了多駕敵機(jī)，創(chuàng)下了赫赫戰(zhàn)功，但它也因?yàn)槠床趹?zhàn)斗的第一線而傷痕累累，最終中彈起火。在艦長金洛斯（諾埃爾·考沃德 Noel Coward 飾）的要求之下，船員們放棄了托林號，塔上了救生艇，其中包括軍士長沃爾特哈迪（伯納德·邁爾斯 Bernard Miles 飾）和新兵肖蒂（約翰·米爾斯 John Mills 飾）等人。一行人在海上艱難漂泊，全憑意志和對家人的思念才勉強(qiáng)幸存，最終被一艘英國軍艦救起，獲救之時，剛開始浩浩蕩蕩的240名官兵，僅剩下19人。
